ATEX Inspections: Essential for Compliance and Business Protection

Tuesday 14 October

For businesses operating in hazardous areas, safety and compliance cannot be left to chance. Explosive atmospheres must be carefully regulated, and industry best practice makes regular ATEX inspections a key requirement.

Not only do they help protect staff and assets, but they also provide the assurance insurers expect when reviewing your operations.

Why Regular ATEX Inspections Matter

Installations must be inspected on a routine basis, with no more than 18 months between the original install and the first inspection. At a minimum, a visual grade inspection should be completed, followed by a close grade inspection after a further 18 months.

These steps ensure your equipment remains compliant, reduces the likelihood of failures and provides evidence to support insurance obligations in the event of an incident.

What SR Electrical Provides

Our CompEx-qualified engineers deliver ATEX inspections tailored to your workplace and industry. Using structured processes and advanced technology, we make sure inspections are thorough yet minimally disruptive.

Inspections – We check all installations, including electrical devices, machinery, protective systems and lighting, using tools such as thermal imaging for added accuracy.

Testing – Equipment is tested to assure compliance, with minimal disruption to your operations.

All inspections follow recognised standards, including BS EN 60079-17, DSEAR, ATEX Directives and APEA. Where issues are identified, we provide expert recommendations backed by experience across oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage and manufacturing industries.

Building Long-Term Confidence

Routine ATEX inspections deliver more than compliance. They help reduce the risk of downtime, improve safety standards across your facilities and provide the documentation needed to satisfy regulators and insurers.

With a structured programme in place, you gain greater confidence in the resilience and reliability of your operations.
